I don't ask you for much, my dear readers, so how about some help with the following: I need to get from D.C. to Chicago, flying into Chicago Midway Airport. I can't seem to find an airline that flies direct from National to Midway. Maybe I'm just not looking in the right place? Or, do I have to fly out of BWI or Dulles to get a direct flight to Midway?

A super-slow day at work today, and another hour and a half to go. Luckily, Matt O. just directed me to a long and confusing investigation of JT LeRoy's identity.
You know, the more I think about it, the more I think I might be able to get behind that campaign. Let's change that question mark to a period, people. Who's going to make up some bumper stickers? (Read the article over at Slate.)
Check out the video for "Cut the Crap" from Sweden's Alice in Videoland. The song is from their new album Outrageous, which just came out on October 5. "Cut the Crap" is totally hot Swedish pop.
I would love to provide the MP3, but the link on their site is broken, so I can't get it. I'll keep checking back to see if they fix it.
From the band bio:
With cocky female vocals, slamming drums, stomping electronic basslines and a strap-on keyboard, Alice in Videoland has gained a reputation for a live show that rocks your socks off! Their unique blend of EBM, Punk, Synth and 80's Rock generated quite a fuss on Swedish clubs and festivals throughout 2003...
Local band Nethers are having a release party at the Warehouse Next Door tonight. Most of Nethers is made up of members of the no-more Carlsonics, but based on the MP3s on their site, this band sounds nothing like the Carlsonics. Instead, they're making fuzzy indie-folk with female lead vocals. Check it out for yourself:

Remember, kids, tonight's iPod Jukebox, so if you don't have a hot date and aren't going to Yom Kippur services, maybe I'll see you there. I'm actually not sure if I can make it, but I put together a few playlists in case I end up going. One of the songs I included is the Ova Looven Remix of Q and Not U's "Wonderful People," which you can download from Mr. Dumbek. Another remix I've been listening to this week is the Beat Detectives Remix of "These Things" by She Wants Revenge, which is found on Consumption Junction's latest MP3 mix.
Marilyn Manson told Women's Wear Daily that he is in talks with a "major" cosmetics company to launch his own fragrance early next year. First of all, why is Marilyn Manson talking to Women's Wear Daily? And second of all, celebrities need to stop it with the fragrances.
Mandy Moore, however, can keep it up with her clothing line Mblem. Those T-shirts are cute. I saw this one in a recent issue of Lucky:

I'm back in the office, sans wisdom teeth. "Twilight" was totally bizarre. It went something like this:
Oral surgeon [injecting the drugs into my IV]: In about 30-40 seconds, you're going to feel it.
Me [sceptical, not feeling anything 20 seconds later]: I don't feel anything.
Oral surgeon: Okay, we're done.
Me [mumbling with mouth full of gauze]: That was fast. How did you do all that in five minutes?
Oral surgeon: It's been about 45 minutes.
Me: Whoa...
Oral surgeon: So, do you think you could drive right now?
Me: Not my car.
And about three minutes later, I was pretty much back to normal and not feeling twilighlight-y at all. So freaky.
They let me keep the teeth. So now I have to decide what I want to do with them. I had the idea of making a tribal-looking necklace or earrings, and going around telling people they were the teeth of my enemies, but I don't think it really goes with my look. Plus, it's gross. Just be happy I didn't take a picture of my teeth and post it here, because it was tempting.
Instead, you get Army of Me. They're way more pleasant-looking:
The rest of my Army of Me photos from last Tuesday are here.
I enjoyed the acoustic performance from Army of Me. Last month, I saw them rock out at the DCist Katrina benefit, and thought they came off as a bit too slick. But stripped down, they seemed much more sincere, and the songs were very pretty. Definitely a local band I'd see again.
Nada Surf photos are here. One of my favorites, plus the setlist:
Despite not knowing almost any songs outside of The Weight Is a Gift, I still enjoyed the set. It was nothing spectacular, but listening to pleasant indie pop is not a bad to spend the evening. I know some fans were disappointed with the performance and the sound, but since I didn't have any expectations, I thought it was fine.
Tomorrow I'll have photos from last Wednesday's Cedars/Giant Drag/stellastarr* show. Speaking of, today is the last day to enter the Giant Drag contest.
While you're there, check out the announcement and flyer for the next bluestate party.

I would blame the lack of posting on the Vicodin, but I haven't taken it since Thursday. So, I'll blame my lazyness on the fact that all I've had to eat since 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday is Jell-o, yoghurt and apple/banana sauce. I'm not so much hungry as I just miss chewing.
In the past few days, I've watched a bunch of DVDs (The Station Agent was particularly great, the Family Guy movie was pretty lame), actually watched an entire episode of Maury, ventured out to see the 40-Year-Old Virgin and... that's about it. I thought 40-Year-Old Virgin is a bit overrated and messy, but I still laughed a lot, and it sort of hurt my jaw.
I'll resume posting when I return to work tomorrow. There will be concert photos and other fun stuff.
